These Are The 27 Transgender People Killed In America In 2017

Remember the 27 reported transgender people who were killed in America in 2017.

The Human Rights Campaign has reported that at least 27 transgender people have been killed in America in 2017 alone, making it the deadliest year on record for the community.

What’s startling is that the majority of the victims (87%) were of colour, whilst many were also misgendered in original police reports and also by the media. The president of the Human Rights Campaign, Chad Griffin, earlier said:

Since the start of the year, at least 25 transgender people have been killed in the U.S., the most on record. Eighty-four percent were people of color, and 80 percent were women. Since January 2013, HRC has documented at least 102 transgender people who were victims of fatal violence; at least 87 were transgender people of color. And these disturbing numbers likely under-report deadly violence targeting transgender people, who may not be properly identified as transgender.

These are their names, which can be served as an important reminder to us all that the fight is far from done. We need to continue to raise the flag, remain proud, and stand up for our community.
