SOAK Returns With The Sublime ‘Everybody Loves You’

Northern Irish singer-songwriter SOAK, otherwise known as Bridie Monds-Watson, today returns with a beautiful new single in the form of ‘Everybody Loves You’ in the first teaser for her upcoming second album.

One of the Mercury Prize’s youngest ever nominees, SOAK has been recognised for her ability to transform her deepest thoughts into powerful and emotional songs and ‘Everybody Loves You’ is no different.

The song will relate to people who love easily but struggle to love themselves. Contemplating the future whilst at the same time looking back, the track considers how true change really is and what happens when you have supposedly grown up and moved on.

Speaking about the soundscape of the track, Monds-Watson said:

‘Everybody Loves You’ is a song about extreme denial. More specifically about my stubborn ability to convince myself I don’t want something that I do and blind my rational thought process – I suppose in this case, as a way of self-protection (and avoiding vulnerability).

The lift at the end of the song (“Everybody wants you, And I do too”) represents the almost comedic/foolish acceptance of my own feelings. A 360 turn of events in which I then so desperately want all that I had rejected and pushed away. A consistent theme of my younger self.”

The track first aired as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on Radio 1, and will be performed as part of a handful of intimate live shows next month.
