Fleur East becomes our ‘Favourite Thing’ in energy-driven video

“So when you’re on my body, the look of you is making me think you’re my new favourite thing.”

Can you believe that it’s been over three years since Fleur East unleashed the massive pop banger that was ‘Sax’ onto the world? Despite never once stopping from being used in a TV ad or video montage, the track remains as instant as it did then and was a show-stopping debut for a singer with heaps of talent.

Since ‘Sax’, things went a little quiet for Fleur East. Having left her record label and entered the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ jungle, East is now back with another track that continues with the confidence and star-potential of her debut.

‘Favourite Thing’ is a bold and brave number that sticks to the uptempo dance-worthy formula that you would expect from a Fleur bop. Produced by Red Triangle, the track features an Afrobeat-inspired chorus and a stomping horn section. The song was written by East, Phil Plested and Dayo Olatunji.

Speaking of the track, East said: “The song has influences from my mother’s side of my family in Ghana. My mum has always made sure I know a lot about my heritage. It’s really anthemic and upbeat.

“I’m so grateful to be starting 2019 in the position I’m in. I really feel like people got to see the real me in the jungle. I’m so much stronger as a person now and I’m really happy with my new music.”

The video for ‘Favourite Thing’ is just as impressive as the track itself. Directed by Moe Swaleh, the visuals are here to remind us that East is back and she’s taking no prisoners. Packed to the brim with energetic dance moves, courtesy of choreographer Eden Shabtai, it’s a delight through-and-through and just reiterates why Fleur East deserves to be a global pop sensation.

In a recent interview, East spoke candidly about her time with Syco Records, who had signed her following her impressive run on ‘The X Factor’, and what led to their separation.

“I was recording for over a year and a half and I constantly kept thinking that I have the new single. I’d go into the meetings and be like, “Guys, we’ve got it”. And the team would say “No, I don’t think we’ve got it, I don’t think it’s strong enough”. That was really hard so I had to keep going back to the drawing board on several occasions,” she told That Grape Juice.

Eventually, the singer called a meeting with the label and asked to leave. “And they were like, “You know what? We respect you and we think you’re such a huge talent. We’re just not on the same page, so we’re going to let you go”,” she added.

Thankfully, it seems like it’s all paid off. If you’re looking for a bold stomper to kick-start your year with, we’ve just found it in the form of ‘Favourite Thing’.
