Pride in London 2018: Our Favourite Photos From The Event

Woah, how amazing was Pride in London? So much love, so much colour, and so much heat.

Coinciding with England’s World Cup match against Sweden, the Pride in London parade took to the streets to celebrate love and equality. 30,000 people from 472 organisations took part in the parade, with an estimated ONE MILLION people lining the streets to watch the event.

There was a little bit of drama as PinkNews reported that a group of radical feminist campaigners distributing anti-transgender leaflets forced their way onto the front of the march. A spokesperson for the Mayor of London told the news site that “Pride is about celebrating difference and London’s amazing LGBT+ community. The vast majority of those present at today’s march respected and embraced that and the Mayor condemns the tiny minority who did not.”

This just shows that Pride is still an important event and still holds power in showcasing the need for respect, love, and equality. As much as there is need for fun, there is also need for protest and to fight for the rights of ourselves and others.

Stonewall have since also released a statement condoning the actions of the transphobic group, stating that “trans people were left feeling exposed and alienated by their own community,” and that organisers “had a duty to condemn the hatred directed at trans people.”

Despite the small number of people trying to cause upset and spread their hateful message, attendees at the event remembered that ‘Love Trumps Hate’ and enjoyed the celebrations. We’ve rounded up just some of our many favourite photos from the event, which showcases just how much of a fun and important day was had.
