Drag queens have long been real-life superheroes for their ability to save the day with some lip-sync action and make us smile. Now, the association is firmly set in Netflix history as a new drag queen superhero animated series takes flight.
‘Super Drags’ sees three “ordinary” workers at a department store, dealing with annoying customers and a demanding boss. But when duty calls, they set their inner divas free to become Lemon Chifon, Scarlet Carmesim and Safira Cyan: three incredibly fabulous superhero drag queens recruited to protect the LGBTQ community and spread glitter throughout the world.
From the looks of the just-released trailer, which you can see below, it looks cheeky, rude and full of humour and glitter. It’s safe to say this is not a show for the entire family.
The show is produced by Combo Studio for Netflix, and is a Netflix Brazilian original. Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will be pleased to hear a number of well-known drag stars from the reality show have just been announced as the voices behind the English-dubbed version series.
Ginger Minj will play Lemon Chifon, Shangela will play Scarlet Carmesim, Willam will play Lady X whilst Trixie Mattel will take on the role of Vedete Champagne, the ruthless mentor of the super-heroines.
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, Shangela excitedly said:
FIRST LOOK!!! Here’s my character Scarlet. And baby, trust and believe … Miss Scarlet is NOT here for the foolishness!!! It’s going DOWN in Crimeland! I think this photo was taken right after the villain said she had a SugarDaddy.
The show will arrive on Netflix on November 9th, so put it in your diary.
