New video celebrates gay love in the most beautiful way.
Queer YouTuber Michael Korte, who is most known for his previous viral hits and broadway mashups #HAM4BEY and #GAGA4RENT, has collaborated with acclaimed dancer Anthony Burrell and director Baxter Stapleton for his most poignant video to date.
With over 9.7k followers, Korte is fast becoming one of our favourite creators on YouTube. His latest video is a performance of ‘Freedom’, a track originally performed by Jussie Smollet. The video stars Anthony Burrell, an acclaimed and award-winning choreographer. What makes this video so special is that Burrell also featured in the original music video for the track.
The video is a beautiful and moving celebration of gay love, with a deliberately-bold decision made to have Burrell performing in a church to a song about a same-sex relationship.
Speaking to QWEERIST about the video, Korte said:
This song rang deeply personal for everyone involved in the production. Upon hearing the song our director, Baxter Stapleton, immediately envisioned putting movement to the piece and saw it all in a church. Anthony Burrell actually appeared in the original music video for the song, so his ties to both Jussie Smollett and the project too are incredibly personal.
Now, more than ever, with our current political leaders, we’re all just fighting for freedom.
The intention of the video is to encourage love and equality for all races and sexual orientations. Better still, every person involved in both front of and behind the camera is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Speaking for ourselves, the video has certainly warmed our hearts!
