Jaden Smith and Tyler, The Creator: The power couple we’ve been waiting for?

“Tyler doesn’t wanna say it, but…”

Nobody expected the 20-year-old Jaden Smith, who identifies as non-binary/genderfluid and has recently cultivated his image as a queer icon, to pause and drop this bombshell during his live performance at the Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, organised by Tyler, the Creator, on Monday.

Neither did Tyler himself, who watched Jaden from the audience, laughing and shaking his head as his alleged boyfriend made this declaration. He has neither confirmed nor denied Jaden’s claims, and replied, ‘hahaha you a crazy n**** man’ to Jaden’s post declaring their relationship on Twitter, which has been posted minutes after he disappeared off-stage and has since been deleted.

Tyler’s views on the situation remain unclear, however, many people across social media platforms have started to gather evidence regarding Tyler and Jaden’s sexuality.

It has been reported – but not confirmed – that the rapper has previously asked Jaden to send him ‘d*** pics’ during an interview. However, Tyler claims that it is something he always tells people, as he finds ending phone calls extremely awkward.

Tyler has been criticised for using homophobic slurs throughout the lyrics of his past albums, however, his notably softer, breakthrough album Flower Boy (released in 2017) has been claimed by many as a step towards him coming out, especially with the lyrics to the song “I Ain’t Got Time” taken into context, where the rapper claims that he has been ‘kissing white boys since 2004’.

Since the release of Flower Boy, Tyler has been much more open to discussing the topic of one’s own sexuality, however, he still remains very secretive about this aspect of his private life.

It is still not completely clear what exactly is going on between Jaden and Tyler. Jaden is known for being rather cryptic, and Tyler is known for being a notorious troll, certainly making them a rather dangerous combination for social media.

The only facts known to the public in this moment in time are that the pair has known each other from early 2013, and that Jaden believes Tyler has been a huge influence on him, and has ‘changed his life’ by introducing him to the clothing brand Supreme. It has also been noted that Jaden has only dated cisgender females so far, however, this does not rule out the possibility of a relationship with Tyler at all.

Jaden Smith and Tyler, the Creator certainly have a lot of potential to become 2018’s iconic new power couple.
