Courtney Act is announced as the winner of Celebrity Big Brother.
It’s official. A drag queen has won this year’s series of Celebrity Big Brother and we couldn’t be more happier! Courtney Act, most known for being a runner-up on RuPaul’s Drag Race season six, made it to the very end of the reality competition.
Beating out Ann Widdecomme, it was a historic and important moment for Courtney who has faced on-going discussions about gender and sexuality amongst her housemates which has often divided opinion. In fact, Widdecomme was one of the most divided in her own thoughts.
Speaking about her win, Courtney said:
This is just amazing! Thank you! Thank you to the eight glorious women who were in the house and to all of my other housemates. Those people made it possible, those experiences we had…this is so surreal right now. It’s amazing to think the public have chosen me, I guess it’s validation. I guess this is validation that it’s OK to be different.
Shane Jenek/Courtney Act received 49.4% of the total votes to win, with Ann getting 39.5%. It was only ever going to be one of them getting the winning vote, with third-place Shane Lynch getting 7.4% of the vote.
Celebrities and Drag Race stars have been expressing their congratulations to Courtney on Twitter, including our fave Trixie Mattel:
Drag queens winning Drag Race is annual. A drag queen winning Big Brother is historical.
