Christina Aguilera Talks Possibility of a Duet with Britney Spears

If you’d have asked our fifteen-year-old selves whether we’d ever expected a Christina and Britney duet, we’d have laughed right in your face.

Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were both pitted against each other when they began their music careers. Both had come from the same Mickey Mouse Club background and both appealed to a similar demographic. Whilst Britney was originally marketed as a sweet, girl-next-door, Christina was always a little bit of a rebel, having a bit more of a dark side.

Nowadays, their “feud” is long gone and both are continuing to have impressive careers (We recently pointed out why Christina’s ‘Bionic’ is a classic yet underrated album – check it out). In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Aguilera set the fandom floodgates open as she discussed a potential duet with one Ms. Britney Spears.

During her appearance, the global music star told Jimmy Kimmel:

When I was coming up it was very obvious, me and Britney… the considered rivalry thing. If we had social media back then, we would have probably done a song together or something and squashed it.

When Kimmel suggested that it’s probably not too late still to collaborate, she replied: “Hey, I’m down… if her reps say OK!”

To which Kimmel answered: “Why don’t you use social media to reach out. Tweet to her or something like that”.

Aguilera’s comments come a few weeks after she spoke of how “hurt” she felt when she was pitted against Spears for so long, and portrayed as the “bad girl”.

She continued: “It’s hard to hear yourself being called names. I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting Britney as the good girl and me as the bad girl.

“It’s like, if I’m going to be demure and innocent, that’s OK. But if I’m going to just be myself, I’m trouble.”

But the acclaimed singer-songwriter has no regrets about her raunchy image from the past and hopes that she was at least able to “pave the way” for other pop starlets, saying:

I love the female body, and I think it’s something to be proud of, not something that men should dictate ownership of.

“I hope I paved the way and helped set the ground rules that women can be any version of themselves they wanna be… and proud of it.”
