Manila Luzon reveals the outfit she was ‘barred’ from wearing on Drag Race All Stars

Producers weren’t sure it was a right fit.

We’re only just about reaching the halfway point of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4’ and it’s safe to say, this season has already provided us with buckets more drama and gag-worthy looks than the third (no shade).

This week on the runway, the All Stars were tasked with showing off their best ‘Swerves and Curves: Padded for the Gods’ look. The queens served 1950’s housewife courtesy of Naomi Smalls, Trinity The Tuck’s “ribbed for her pleasure” outfit, and Valentina’s padding behind the outfit look.

Manila Luzon’s Louis XIII-inspired “RuCoCo Chanel” look was a big hit with the judges and audiences alike, but the drag queen shared on Instagram that this was actually her back up outfit.

In fact, a red dress adorned with a giant menstrual pad and faux blood was the original intention. On Instagram, Luzon wrote: “Ru said my ORIGINAL Curves & Swerves Runway look was in ‘bad taste’ and production told me to wear my back up.

“I was really looking forward to wearing this gown that I think celebrates a perfectly normal human experience!”

“My goal with this look was to normalize menstruation by looking sick’ning even if I was on my period!”

Luzon’s post added that the meaning behind the outfit was because “many of my fans are young women who may feel pressured by society to be embarrassed by periods.

“It’s empowering to teach young women about their bodies, encourage them to celebrate them AND to question people who tell them not to. My goal with this look was to normalize menstruation by looking sick’ning even if I was on my period!”

It’s a shame the outfit wasn’t able to be walked down the runway as it is STUNNING and has such a positive message. After all, wearing a massive menstrual pad is exactly the kind of thing that Divine would have loved to wear too – it’s the exact art-as-activism that drag should be a part of.

Despite not wearing the dress, Luzon still looked absolutely stunning in her Versailles-inspired outfit and went on to lipsync for her legacy.

It may be a bit early too early to predict at this stage, but we’re totes feeling that a Luzon win might just be on the cards if she keeps turning out these gorgeous looks.
