Drag Race infographic reveals the real impact of a wig reveal

Roxxxy Andrews, Sasha Velour, Monique Heart, and Peppermint are just four contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race that have thrown a wig reveal our way during their time on the famed reality show.

We all remember them, but are the reveals actually any benefit to their own game or is it just a stunt? Well, thankfully, one good Judy in the form of Reddit user u/fadedfigures has done some hardcore investigation into just how well a wig reveal can help things.

According to their research, a queen who performs a wig reveal has four times higher odds of winning or drawing a lipsync. Out of the 16 wig reveals up to season 11, eight have won, five have drawn, and three have lost their lipsync.

While on the topic of wigs, the research also looks into wig loss, as in when a queen loses their wig and reveals their “boy” hair. Whether intentional or unintentional, it doesn’t tend to go down too well with the judges and the viewing public.

Out of the 19 wig loss incidents, 12 have lost their lipsync and ultimately been sent packing with their wig in hand. Shangela, Milan, and Monique Heart are the only queens to have lost their wig on multiple occasions.

With season 11 having an unprecedented SIX different reveals throughout, it looks like wig reveals are on the rise but we also have to remember that some of them (we’re looking at you Silky and you A’Keria) really failed to land as intended.

If you’re going to do a wig reveal, our queens need to think outside the box, surprise us all, and make it as iconic as Roxxy’s ‘Whip My Hair’-reveal or Sasha Velour’s ‘So Emotional’ rose party.
